LADbible has decided to create an e-commerce website, their LADstore, and I was in charge of setting up, which was a nice challenge.

For those who do not know LADbible, they are one of the biggest social media companies in the world, with a reach to nearly 1 billion people.

Quick look at the website when it was launched

Shopify

I absolutely love Shopify. It’s so easy to use (especially compared to WordPress x WooCommerce), and when I started this project some new tools had been implemented since the last time I had worked with Shopify. I would say the biggest change, and the most efficient, was the implementation of GitHub to manage the versions of themes.

Being integrated with GitHub means I can pull the repo to my local machine and work in my favourite text editor (Sublime Text), making the development of the theme much smoother as you can easily jump from file to file, copy and paste, and generally use shortcuts.

App blocks

A new introduction in Shopify was it’s Online Store 2.0, which allows for better customisation through the Customise theme page, but even more importantly, allows you to app blocks in the pages, allowing you to create fully customised layouts.

Custom functions

One of the main request was for it to act quite similarly to the One Million Dollar Puzzle website (now 2 million $). More specifically to have a big banner on the homepage, taking the entire space, and then if you scroll down, for the Buy Now button to stick on the top and be present on the entire page.
