Detour began as a spark of an idea during a casual walk around London in 2015. A friend was visiting, and as we wandered, I’d point out random things: “If we turn here, that’s where they shot that Harry Potter scene,” or “Just over there, the Great Fire of London started.” And so I thought… what if there was an app that could give you that same spontaneous experience? Just roam, explore freely, and still discover a city’s hidden stories without a rigid plan.
I started coding a simple version with a UI where you enter a destination, and it shows the direction and distance—simple, but with a lot of potential. I think it might even be useful as a way to navigate around your own city, not just to discover new ones.
I’d love to turn it into something much more! Imagine creating custom tours based on your interests, tracking characters from movies or books, sharing live locations with friends, or even joining in outdoor escape games and treasure hunts. There’s a solid business plan ready, but I could use some extra hands to help.
